FOURTH QUARTER RATINGS IN TOTAL VIEWERS

Saturday’s “Today” Show Beats ABC’s “Good Morning America” and

CBS’ “Early Show” in Total Viewers and Homes for the Second Quarter in a Row

According to Nielsen Media Research data, NBC News’ Saturday edition of “Today” finished the fourth quarter of 2002 with its highest ever fourth quarter ratings in total viewers. For the fourth quarter 2002, “Saturday Today” averaged 4.8 million viewers.

For the fourth quarter 2002, “Saturday Today” also beat the weekday averages of ABC’s “Good Morning America” (4.7 million) and CBS’ “The Early Show” (2.7 million). In homes, “Saturday Today” delivered a 3.9/15 beating ABC “Good Morning America’s” 3.7/14 and CBS “Early Show’s” 2.1/8. This marks the second quarter in a row that “Saturday Today” has outdelivered ABC’s “GMA” and CBS’ “Early Show” in total viewers and homes.

For the fourth quarter 2002, “Saturday Today” tied GMA’s weekday average among the key demographics of adults 18-49 (1.3 rating) and among adults 25-54 (1.7 rating).

For the fourth quarter 2002, “Sunday Today” tied with CBS’ “Sunday Morning” with a 1.7 rating in women 25-54 and a 1.4 rating in adults 25-54 for the quarter. “Sunday Today” has placed first in women for the past 27 quarters (including 9 ties).
