Thursday, July 4 on NBC (9-10 p.m. ET)

NBC and Macy’s join together to celebrate the country’s 226th birthday with this special on Thursday, July 4 (9-10:30 p.m. live ET — and from 9-10 p.m. in each of the other three time zones). Rob Lowe of NBC’s Emmy Award-winning drama “The West Wing” (Wednesdays, 9-10 p.m. ET) will host this 90-minute special which features amazing pyrotechnics live from New York City as well as musical performances and guest celebrities. The fireworks display theme is “A Time For Heroes” and will include a special tribute to the heroes and victims of September 11th. Lowe will be surrounded by thousands of spectators and will introduce each performance and comment on the night’s festivities.

The telecast will include performances by Britney Spears, Ray Charles, Enrique Iglesias and James Taylor. In addition, there will be special guest appearances by former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani (Time magazine’s “Person of the Year”), box-office mega-star Harrison Ford (star of the upcoming feature “K19: The Widowmaker”), Mike Meyers (star of this summer’s big-screen “Austin Powers in Goldmember”) and film star Sigourney Weaver.
