Set to premiere the weekend of September 21 & 22, 2002, The Chris Matthews Show is a half-hour weekend news program that will examine the weeks most compelling topics in news. The show will be based in Washington D.C. and will be produced by NBC News and distributed in national syndication by NBC Enterprises.
From the upcoming midterm elections to politics to general interest topics, The Chris Matthews Show will bring viewers up close and behind the scenes of the top stories of the day. The show will provide viewers with information that they wont get elsewhere and the opportunity to take away a different perspective on the latest news stories.
Each week, Matthews will lead a roundtable of four to five panelists consisting of editors, reporters and politicians. The Chris Matthews Show will examine the vast world of political opinion and policy and will feature a variety of topics of interest ranging from domestic and foreign policy and the war on terrorism to hot topics of the day including movies, events and pop culture.
At the helm of The Chris Matthews Show is Executive Producer Nancy Nathan. Nathan had been Executive Producer of Meet the Press with Tim Russert since 1998 and continues as the Director of NBC News Polling Unit. Prior to being Executive Producer of Meet the Press, Nathan served as chief Washington producer for Today from 1989-1997 where she headed the broadcasts Washington office and oversaw editorial coverage, public policy and politics.
As an author, international journalist and no-nonsense political commentator, Matthews expertise in politics and government is widely recognized. In addition to hosting MSNBCs Hardball, he is a nationally syndicated columnist for the San Francisco Chronicle and the author of best-selling books such as Now Let Me Tell You What I Really Think (2001), Hardball (1988), and Kennedy and Nixon (1996). Prior to entering journalism, he served as White House aide and speechwriter to former president Jimmy Carter as well as senior aide to Speaker of the House, Thomas ONeill, Jr. Matthews covered the opening of the Berlin Wall, the first all-races election in South Africa and the historic peace referendum in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
