BURBANK, Calif. — December 5, 2002 — “The John Walsh Show,” the first-run talk series from NBC Enterprises, has been renewed on the NBC owned and operated and Hearst-Argyle stations for a second season, it was announced today by Ed Wilson, President NBC Enterprises. The second season of “The John Walsh Show” will commence Fall 2003.

“‘The John Walsh Show’ has delivered impressive numbers for stations with 25% growth over previous time periods,” said Wilson. “With smart topics and the ability to empower viewers, the show is different than traditional talk shows and the ratings prove that a show like this can still work in today’s environment.”

“The NBC stations are pleased to provide our viewers with another season of ‘The John Walsh Show,’” said Jay Ireland, NBC Television Stations President. “The show has performed very well for our stations and we look forward to another successful year.”

In the most recent sweep (November 2002), “The John Walsh Show” was one of only two new syndicated strips to have improved over previous year’s time periods. The talk show experienced year-to-year growth of 25% among ABC-CBS-NBC affiliates in daytime time periods. In addition, “The John Walsh Show” showed consistent growth in the last three months (September – November) in several major markets including: WNBC New York 5%; KNBC Los Angeles 8%; WMAQ Chicago 46%; WCAU Philadelphia 57%; WCVB Boston 13%; WRC DC 45%; WVIT Hartford 36%; WNCN Raleigh 67%; KMBC Kansas City 5%; WPBF West Palm Beach 19%; and WVTM Birmingham 56%.

The NBC owned-and-operated stations that have renewed “The John Walsh Show” are: WNBC-TV (New York), KNBC-TV (Los Angeles), WMAQ-TV (Chicago), WCAU-TV (Philadelphia), KNTV-TV (San Francisco), KXAS-TV (Dallas), WRC-TV (Washington, D.C.), WTVJ-TV (Miami), KNSD-TV (San Diego), WVIT (Hartford), WNCN-TV (Raleigh), WCMH-TV (Columbus), WVTM-TV (Birmingham) and WJAR-TV (Providence).
