BURBANK, Calif. — December 18, 2002 — Martin Scorsese says he would have cast Robert De Niro in the Dicaprio role of his upcoming release Gangs of New York, had he made the movie when he first became interested in the project thirty years ago. The interview airs on Access Hollywood, Wednesday, December 18, 2002 (check local listings for time and station).
Knowing that Scorsese had first considered filming Gangs of New York in the early 1970s, Access Hollywoods Pat OBrien asked the director who he would have liked to cast in the role of Amsterdam all those years ago. I know, at the time, I guess it would’ve been the young De Niro to play Amsterdam, yeah, Scorsese says. Pat asks, Is that who you had in mind? For Amsterdam, yes. Years ago.
Access Hollywood is produced by NBC and distributed by NBC Enterprises Domestic Syndication.
