NEW YORK — December 30, 2002 — According to Nielsen Media Research data, Meet the Press with Tim Russert was again the dominant Sunday morning public affairs broadcast, outperforming ABC, CBS and FOX in all categories. For the week ending December 22nd, 2002, Meet the Press averaged 4.037 million viewers, a 41% advantage over ABC This Week with George Stephanopoulos 2.871 million, and a 57% lead over CBS Face the Nations 2.574 million. For the week, FOX News Sunday trailed Meet the Press by 222% with 1.256 million viewers.
In homes, Meet the Press was also No. 1 posting a 3.1 rating and a 10 share. ABC and CBS had a 2.1/7 and FOX a 1.0/3. The Russert-moderated political discussion program has now placed first in homes for 219 weeks.
Among the key demographics women, men and adults 25-54, Meet the Press was also top-rated. Specifically among younger viewers (adults 25-54), Meet the Press 1.2 rating was 50% more than ABCs and CBS 0.8, and a 200% more than FOXs 0.4 rating.
Last weeks guests were First Lady Laura Bush, Rudolph Giuliani and Cardinal Theodore McCarrick.
