Michael Jack was named President and General Manager of WRC-TV, NBC’s owned-and-operated station in Washington, DC. It was announced today by Jay Ireland, President of NBC Television Stations. In addition, Bob Wright, Vice Chairman of General Electric and Chairman and CEO of NBC, announced that Jack will become Vice President of NBC Diversity.
Jack was most recently the President and General Manager of WCMH-TV, NBC’s owned-and-operated station in Columbus, Ohio. His replacement at WCMH-TV will be announced shortly. Jack replaces Linda Sullivan, who recently left WRC-TV to become President and General Manager of KNTV, NBC’s new owned-and-operated station in the San Jose/Oakland/San Francisco market.
“Michael was hugely successful in guiding WCMH-TV to first place in primetime and late local news,” said Ireland. ” With that track record, I am confident he has what it takes to maintain WRC-TV’s leadership in Washington.”
Jack replaces Paula Madison as head of diversity for NBC. Madison is transitioning out of this leadership role in order to focus on the challenges of the Telemundo integration in Los Angeles, along with her responsibilities as President and General Manager of KNBC-TV. Madison will continue to serve as a key member of the Diversity Council.
“I am very pleased that Michael will be heading NBC’s diversity efforts, since he has been an active and deeply committed member of this council.” said Wright. “His determination and leadership skills will help drive NBC’s diversity agenda forward.”
“This is an exciting opportunity for me,” said Jack. “I am thrilled to be moving to a major news market in such a diverse city. I look forward to working with the strong team at WRC-TV and continuing its success.”
Prior to his appointment at WCMH-TV in 1999, Jack was vice president of sales for KNBC in Los Angeles. Jack joined NBC in 1996 after 19 years at Capital Cities/ABC-TV, where he served in multiple management and account executive roles.
Jack currently serves as a board member of the Salvation Army, a board member of the Inner City Games in Columbus, TV chairperson for the United Way 2000 campaign, vice president of 100 Black Men of Columbus, Ohio, and a board member of the Columbus Urban League. He has served as president of the Los Angeles Minority Advertising Training Program, committee chairman of the Black Media Network, board member of the Ad Club of Los Angeles, president of the Los Angeles Representative Association and other business and civic organizations.
He graduated from Haverford College with a BA in political science. Jack will be relocating to Washington, DC with his wife, Mary Major Jack, and daughter, Truce.
