NEW YORK -– September 16, 2002 — NBC President and General Manager Frank Comerford and Meteorologist Janice Huff will be honored tomorrow evening by “New Yorkers for Children” for WNBC’s commitment to “Wednesday’s Child,” the weekly adoption segment that airs Wednesdays on “Live at Five.”

Huff, who is the host of “Wednesday’s Child,” and Comerford will receive the Second Annual Nicholas Scoppetta Award for Service to Children in recognition of WNBC’s commitment to children and families and the great success of the

”Wednesday’s Child” program. The New Yorkers for Children’s annual Fall Gala is being held at The Regent Wall Street in lower Manhattan.

Each week, “Wednesday’s Child” profiles special needs children in the New York City foster care system in the effort of finding them a permanent, loving home. Since its debut on WNBC in April 1999, 22 of the featured “Wednesday’s Children” have been permanently adopted, 63 are now living in pre-adoptive homes and 27 are currently visiting with families that are interested in adopting. In total, more than half of the children profiled in the “Wednesday’s Child” segment have either been adopted or are currently in the adoption process.

“Wednesday’s Child” is a partnership among WNBC, the Freddie Mac Foundation and New York City’s Administration for Children’s Services (ACS).
