KNTV
NBC3, San Jose-Oakland-San Francisco, California

KNTV NBC3, NBC’s newest owned-and-operated station, serves San Jose-Oakland-San Francisco, the nation’s 5th-largest market.

Founded in San Jose by the Sunlight Bakery, KNTV signed on the air September 12, 1955. The station was an independent for five years before becoming an ABC affiliate in 1960. Landmark Communications bought KNTV in 1978 and sold the station to Granite Broadcasting Corp. in 1990. KNTV became an NBC affiliate on January 1, 2002, and increased its broadcast power to reach more of the market. A unique partnership with AT&T Broadband guaranteed KNTV cable channel 3 on all systems in the area, thus giving rise to the NBC3 brand. NBC acquired the station from Granite on May 1, 2002.

Today, NBC3 serves the entire market with more local news hours and more local programs than the other area stations, and has already achieved ratings leadership in primetime and late news. NBC3 is constructing a new news and sales bureau in San Francisco and a new digital broadcast facility in San Jose to better serve the market. The station is committed to community service, quality and relevant news broadcasts, and enhancing the viewer and customer experience in every contact.
