BURBANK, Calif. - January 15, 2002 - NBCs popular first-year comedy Hidden Hills generated impressive numbers last night, retaining 90 percent of its 18-49 lead-in from Frasier, according to updated in-home viewing figures from Nielsen Media Research. Its the highest Hidden Hills retention to date following a first-run Frasier and the highest retention for any regular NBC program in the slot following an original Frasier in the past year.
Hidden Hills (4.6 rating, 11 share among adults 18-49, 9.6 million viewers overall) finished a strong second for its half-hour among adults 18-49 and won the slot among women 18-49 and 25-54. The last NBC regular to retain as much as 92 percent of the time periods 18-49 lead-in from a first-run Frasier was the Jan. 15, 2002 episode of Scrubs.
NBC opened the night at 8 p.m. with Just Shoot Me, which earned a 2.5/7 among adults 18-49 and attracted 6.3 million viewers overall. At 8:30 p.m. ET, In-Laws (2.6/7 among adults 18-49, 6.6 million viewers overall) built by 4 percent on that 18-49 lead-in. In 10 telecasts in the Tuesday 8:30 half-hour this season, In-Laws has always retained at least 96 percent of its 18-49 lead-in.
At 9 p.m., Frasier (5.1/12 among adults 18-49, 12.4 million viewers overall) finished a close second among adults 18-49 and was the No. 1 show of the half-hour and the night among total viewers. Frasier also won the time period among adults 25-54 and all key adult-female demographics.
At 10 p.m., the seasons No. 1 newsmagazine among adults 18-49, the Tuesday edition of Dateline NBC (4.1/11 among adults 18-49, 9.7 million viewers overall) finished a competitive second among adults 18-49 and led the hour among adults 18-34, women 18-34 and women 18-49.
Prime-time updated 18-49 averages for Tuesday are: Fox, 4.9/12; ABC, 4.0/10; NBC, 3.8/10; WB, 3.1/8; CBS, 2.4/6; UPN, 1.0/3. In total viewers, Jan. 14 updated averages are: ABC, 10.1 million; CBS, 9.8 million; Fox, 9.6 million; NBC, 9.1 million; WB, 6.5 million; UPN, 2.4 million.
In local-market late-night results, The Tonight Show With Jay Leno (4.6 rating, 11 share in metered-market households) beat CBS Late Show With David Letterman (3.4/8 in metered-market households). Tonight has won 81 of 81 nights in the local markets so far this season versus The Late Show.
