NEW YORK — December 6, 2002 — According to Nielsen Media Research data, “Meet the Press with Tim Russert” was the top rated Sunday morning public affairs program, winning the week ending Sunday, December 1, 2002 in all categories. For the week, the Russert-moderated program averaged 4,741 million viewers, a whopping 83% advantage over ABC’s “This Week’s” 2,594 million, and a 64% lead over CBS’s “Face the Nation’s” 2,891 million viewers. FOX “News Sunday” averaged 1,379 million viewers for the week. This represents the sixth time that ABC has now placed third since the debut of the new ABC “This Week,” and their fourth consecutive week trailing CBS’ “Face the Nation” (weeks of 10/6, 10/20, 11/10, 11/17, 11/24 and 12/1)

In homes, “Meet the Press” posted a 3.6 rating and an 11 share, outperforming both ABC (2.0/6) and CBS (2.3/7) by more than a full ratings point. “Meet the Press” has now placed first in homes for 207 weeks.

Among the demographics women, men and adults 25-54, the NBC Sunday morning program was No. 1 across the board. Specifically among adults 25-54, “Meet the Press” had a 1.3 rating, 30% more than CBS’ 1.0 rating and a staggering 117% more than ABC’s 0.6. FOX trailed “Meet the Press” by 160% with a 0.5 rating.

Last week’s guest was Senator John Kerry (D-Mass.).
