‘MEET THE PRESS WITH TIM RUSSERT’ DOMINATES SUNDAY MORNING PUBLIC AFFAIRS COMPETITION IN ALL CATEGORIES

NEW YORK — December 12, 2002 — According to Nielsen Media Research data, “Meet the Press with Tim Russert” was again the dominant Sunday morning public affairs broadcast, outperforming ABC, CBS and FOX in all categories. For the week, “Meet the Press” averaged 4.107 million viewers, a 48% advantage over ABC “This Week with George Stephanopoulos’” 2.783 million, and a 76% lead over CBS “Face the Nation’s” 2.331 million. For the week, FOX “News Sunday” trailed “Meet the Press” by 175% with 1.492 million viewers.

In homes, “Meet the Press” was also No. 1 posting a 3.4 rating and an 11 share. ABC had a 2.1/6, CBS a 1.9/6 and FOX a 1.1/4. The Russert-moderated political discussion program has now placed first in homes for 208 weeks.

Among the key demographics women, men and adults 25-54, “Meet the Press” was also top-rated. Specifically among younger viewers (adults 25-54), “Meet the Press’” 1.2 rating was 71% more than ABC’s and CBS’ 0.7, and a 100% more than FOX’s 0.6 rating.

Last week’s guests were David Kay, Sen. Joe Biden, Sen. Chuck Hagel, David Broder, Joe Klein, Robert Novak, and William Safire.
