NEW YORK — December 19, 2002 — According to Nielsen Media Research data, “Meet the Press with Tim Russert” was the No. 1 Sunday morning public affairs program, winning the week ending December 15th, 2002 in all categories. For the week, “Meet the Press” averaged 4.400 million viewers, ABC’s “This Week with George Stephanopoulos” trailed by 64% with 2.683 million, and CBS’ “Face the Nation” followed by 74% with 2.535 million. “Meet the Press” also had a 199% advantage over FOX “News Sunday’s” 1.473 million viewers.

In homes, “Meet the Press” was also top-rated, posting a 3.4 rating and an 11 share. ABC followed with a 2.1/6, CBS had a 2.0/6 and FOX a 1.1/3. “Meet the Press” now placed first in homes for 209 weeks.

In the key demographics women, men and adults 25-54, “Meet the Press” won in each category. Specifically among younger viewers (adults 25-54), “Meet the Press” had 1.4 rating, a 75% lead over ABC’s 0.8, a 100% advantage over CBS’ 0.7, and 180% more than FOX’s 0.5 rating.

Last week’s guests were Rep. John Lewis, Rep. J.C. Watts, Sen. Carl Levin, Sen. Rick Santorum, Tom Friedman and Paul Gigot.
