NEW YORK — January 6, 2003 — According to Nielsen Media Research data, “Meet the Press with Tim Russert” was the top-rated Sunday morning public affairs program, outperforming the competition in total viewers and homes for the week ending December 29th, 2002. For the week, “Meet the Press” averaged 4.081 million total viewers, a 40% advantage over second place CBS “Face the Nation’s” 2.915 million, and a 66% lead over ABC “This Week with George Stephanopoulos’” 2.454 million. FOX’s “News Sunday” placed fourth with 1.566 million.

In homes, “Meet the Press” was also top-rated, posting a 3.1 rating and an 11 share. CBS followed with a 2.4/8, ABC was third with a 1.9/6, and FOX was last with a 1.1/4. “Meet the Press” has now placed first in homes for 220 weeks.

Among adults 25-54, “Meet the Press” had a 1.0 rating, CBS had a 1.1, FOX had a 0.7, and ABC was last with a 0.5 rating, trailing the NBC Sunday morning broadcast by 100%.

The guests appearing on “Meet the Press” on Sunday, December 29th were: Secretary of State Colin Powell, Sen. Joe Biden, Sen. Richard Lugar, James Carville and Mary Matalin.
