‘MEET THE PRESS WITH TIM RUSSERT’ DOMINATES THE SUNDAY MORNING PUBLIC AFFAIRS COMPETITION

NEW YORK — January 9, 2003 — According to Nielsen Media Research data, “Meet the Press with Tim Russert” was the dominant Sunday morning public affairs program, winning the week ending Sunday, January 5, 2003 in all categories. “Meet the Press” rang in the New Year with 4.132 million viewers, a 52% advantage over ABC “This Week with George Stephanopoulos’” 2.722 million, and a 61% lead over CBS “Face the Nation’s” 2.573 million. “Meet the Press” outperformed FOX “News Sunday’s” 1.097 total viewer average by 277%.

In homes, “Meet the Press” was also No. 1 with a 3.3 rating and an 11 share. CBS was second with a 2.1/6, ABC was third with a 2.0/6, and FOX was fourth with a 0.9/3. “Meet the Press” has now placed first in homes for 221 weeks.

Among the key demographics women, men and adults 25-54, the Russert-moderated news program was top-rated across the board. Among younger viewers (adults 25-54), “Meet the Press” posted a 1.2 rating, a 71% advantage over both ABC and CBS’s 0.7 rating and a 200% lead over FOX’s 0.4.

Last week’s guests were Sen. Don Nickles, Sen. Harry Reid, David Broder, Robert Novak, William Safire and Robin Wright.
