NEW YORK — January 9, 2003 — NBC News’ “Today” rang in 2003 with a 1.5 million lead over GMA during the week of December 30 -January 5. The weekly win marks “Today’s” 368th straight week in first place.

For the holiday week of December 30 -January 5, “Today” finished with a 4.4 rating/18 share and 5.5 million viewers. “GMA” remained behind with a 3.4/14 and 4.2 million viewers. CBS’ “The Early Show” stayed in third place with a 2.1/8 and 2.8 million viewers.

Season-to-date “Today” is the only network morning news show not to decline in homes and total viewers. Season-to-date versus last season “Today” is down just 1 tenth of a rating point in women & adults 25-54, while GMA is down 3 tenths in women 25-54 and 2 tenths in adults 25-54.

“Today II” thrived during the holiday week and outperformed GMA among homes, total viewers, and all key demos for the second-straight week. The third hour of “Today” finished the week with a 3.8/13 and 4.7 million viewers. Once again, “Today II” outperformed “The Early Show” across the board in homes, total viewers and all key demos. It also outperformed Regis and Kelly among adults 25-54. Season-to-date “Today II” is tied with GMA among adults 18-49.
