NEW YORK — January 18, 2003 — According to Nielsen Media Research data, “Meet the Press” continued as the No. 1 Sunday morning public affairs program, outperforming ABC, CBS and FOX in all categories for the week ending Sunday, January 12, 2003. For the week, “Meet the Press” averaged 4.446 million viewers, 44% more than ABC “This Week with George Stephanopoulos’” 3.087 million, and 59% more than CBS “Face the Nation’s” 2.800 million. FOX’s “News Sunday” trailed “Meet the Press” by 148% with 1.793 million viewers.

In homes, “Meet the Press” was also top-rated, posting a 3.3 rating and a 10 share. CBS was second with a 2.3/7, ABC was third with a 2.2/6 and FOX was last with a 1.3/4. “Meet the Press” has now placed first in homes for 222 weeks.

Among the key demographics women, men and adults 25-54, “Meet the Press” was No. 1 in all categories. Among younger viewers (adults 25-54), the Russert-moderated political discussion program had a 1.2 rating, a 33% advantage over ABC’s 0.9, a 50% lead over CBS’ 0.8 and 71% more than FOX’s 0.7 rating.

Last week’s guests were Sen. Bill Frist (R-Tenn.) Majority Leader, and Rev. Al Sharpton, Pres., National Action Network.
