NEW YORK — December 5, 2002 — Tiger Woods headlines a field of 16 of the worlds best players as NBC presents live coverage of the Tiger Woods Foundations Target World Challenge presented by Williams on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 7-8. Coverage airs from 3-6 p.m. ET both days. The fourth annual event, which features eight of the top 10 in the official world golf rankings, will take place at Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, Calif.
Retief Goosen, David Toms, Davis Love III, Vijay Singh, Rich Beem, Mark O’Meara, Nick Price and Bernhard Langer – all winners of majors – as well as Phil Mickelson, Padraig Harrington, Jim Furyk, Colin Montgomerie, Michael Campbell, Chris DiMarco, and Bob Estes are all playing in one of the premiere events of the challenge season.
Host Dan Hicks and analyst Roger Maltbie will anchor NBCs coverage from the 18th hole tower. They are joined by tower reporter Gary Koch, on-course reporter Mark Rolfing and interviewer Jimmy Roberts.
The winner of the $3.8 million, 72-hole stroke-play event will receive $1 million, while the 16th-place finisher will receive $130,000.
The field includes eight players who competed in The Ryder Cup at The Belfry: Woods, Mickelson, Toms, Love and Furyk from the U.S. side; Montgomerie, Harrington and Langer from the victorious European team.
