The hour-long special will be hosted by NBCs Jimmy Roberts.
The year-end program will feature Woods’ second U.S. Open victory in three years. NBC golf host Dan Hicks recaps this historic Open at the publicly owned Black Course at Bethpage (N.Y.) State Park. NBC course reporter Roger Maltbie sits down with Juli Inkster to look back at her second U.S. Women’s Open win, this one at Prairie Dunes (Kan.) Country Club, where she also won the 1980 U.S. Women’s Amateur. Don Pooley and Tom Watson talk about their extra-holes battle for the U.S. Senior Open title, won by Pooley with a birdie on the fifth extra hole. And legendary amateur Carol Semple Thompson of Sewickley, Pa., talks about winning her fourth consecutive Senior Women’s Amateur and her seven USGA career titles.
All 13 of the USGA individual champions will be shown, with brief highlight footage from each championship. Among the other amateur winners are George Zahringer of New York, N.Y., who won the U.S. Mid-Amateur on his home course at The Stanwich (Conn.) Club, and 14-year-old In-Bee Park of Eustis, Fla., who took home the U.S. Girls’ Junior trophy.
