NEW YORK — December 18, 2002 — The U.S. Olympic snowboarders who struck gold in the halfpipe during the Salt Lake Games in February are returning to the snow where they found Olympic Glory, this Saturday night, Dec. 21 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on NBC. The Red Hot Chili Peppers will also be performing.

The Chevy Truck U.S. Snowboard Grand Prix from Park City, Utah will feature the three U.S. men who swept the Olympic halfpipe medals in Salt Lake – Ross Powers, Danny Kass and JJ Thomas – and American Kelly Clark, the first gold medalist of the Salt Lake Games.

“With the Chili Peppers and the night event, this could be one of the biggest (Grand Prix Events) ever,” Powers said. “Nighttime finals are really cool and with the Chili Peppers playing it makes it even better.”

At the Salt Lake Games, Powers, Kass and Thomas teamed to sweep the medals in the men’s snowboarding halpipe for the USA’s first Olympic event sweep in 46 years, since the USA’s men’s figure skating team swept the medals in 1956.

NBC commentators Pat Parnell, Tara Teigen, Kevin Delaney will call the action from Park City.

Last season, Clark prepared for her Olympic gold medal performance by winning three of the Grand Prix events in a row. Powers has won four Grand Prix halfpipe events in his career.
